Baylor Health Care System has undertaken a $350 million project to create a new Cancer Center at Baylor University Medical Center. The Cancer Center will include advanced facilities for clinical research, patient care and training the next generation of cancer specialists.

Within five years, North Texas will see a 21 percent increase in cancer patients. Baylor treats almost one in five cancer inpatients within the 10-county area, and Baylor Dallas is the flagship hospital for Texas Oncology, P.A., the nation’s largest private oncology practice.

The large volume of patients treated and this close relationship with physician partners have made Baylor Dallas a primary referral center for complex surgeries, rare tumors and advanced stages of cancer. Baylor’s expertise allows us to better treat the most complex cancer cases.

The Cancer Center will be anchored by a new 10-story outpatient building for day treatments, patient support services and physician offices. The Collins Building will be renovated into an inpatient cancer hospital, and the Charles A. Sammons Tower will be remodeled to become the hub for oncology patient support services.

Construction of the outpatient building began in early 2009. The Collins Building and Sammons Tower renovation is scheduled to begin in April 2011.
