Small Bowel Transplant
In 1994, surgeons on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas performed the Southwest's first small bowel transplant. This rare transplant procedure may be a treatment options for intestinal failure due to short-gut syndrome caused by massive bowel resection, volvulus, gastroschisis, trauma, necrotizing enterocolitis, ischemia, and Crohn’s disease, among others.
The pediatric program is home to the first pediatric intestional team in North Texas. The program is an alliance between Baylor University Medical Center and Children's Medical Center of Dallas.
