Lower Your Risk

Heart and Vascular Disease: What are You Doing to Lower Your Risk?

Lets face it. Nobody likes to talk about heart disease. But the fact is, its the leading cause of death in this country--in men and women. The good news is, you can learn how to reduce many of your risk factors by taking advantage of the Heart Beat Risk Profile.

Your participation begins with a simple health screening. Four key risk areas are evaluated--cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight. Each of these areas will be measured initially, giving you the opportunity to know your numbers and track your progress.

In addition to the first screening, we will provide follow-up testing every six months. These screenings will be offered at a discounted cost of just $10 per check-up. Youll receive support and information to make lifestyle changes easier.

Consider the four risk factors profiled here. Then, if youre ready to reduce your chances of heart attack, were ready to help.

  • Cholesterol is made up of LDL (bad) cholesterol and HDL (good) cholesterol. The recommended level for LDL cholesterol is below 130 mg/dL. A HDL level of 60 mg/dL or greater is beneficial. Lifestyle changes such as lowering the amount of cholesterol and saturated fats in your diet can reduce your risk of heart disease.
  • More than 60 million Americans have high blood pressure (140/90 or higher). This is often a silent disease with no symptoms, but can make the heart work harder.
  • When there is an abnormally high level of sugar (glucose) in the blood, the condition is known as diabetes mellitus. This may speed the rate at which plaques are deposited on artery walls, thus increasing the risk of heart attack.
  • Being overweight can increase risk of heart attack, including raising blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
