(FORT WORTH, Texas, September 29, 2008) – Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth announced today that Lisa Holt, R.N., was the June 2008 recipient of the DAISY Award. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.

Holt is a nurse educator at Baylor Fort Worth. Lisa is an inspiring educator who incorporates her own nursing experiences into the classes she teaches. This is a very effective way to keep learners engaged and to make the content ‘real’ for them,” says Michelle Marty, RN, program manager, continuing education. “Lisa goes out of her way to ensure that all participants understand the material presented. We are very lucky to have Lisa as a part of Baylor’s team.”

One of Holt’s peers stated, “Lisa is a wonderful teacher that has shared her experiences as an R.N. on a daily basis. She reinforces how we can learn to be the best nurses, and it is obvious to all her students that she really enjoys teaching. Lisa has the ability to take some of the hardest subjects in nursing school and explain the concept in an easily understandable manner.”

The DAISY Award is a nation-wide program that rewards excellence in nursing. The award was created by the Foundation for the Elimination of Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem and recognizes the clinical skills, extraordinary compassion and care exhibited by nurses every day. It is given monthly to an outstanding nurse in more than 100 hospitals across the United States. Patients, visitors, employees or physicians may nominate a deserving nurse.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. Having been touched by the remarkable care, clinical skills and compassion demonstrated by nurses during Patrick’s illness, the Barnes family made it their mission to recognize exceptional nurses around the country.

The DAISY Award is funded by the Faxel Endowment for Nurses. Ralph and Dee Faxel established the Faxel Endowment for Nurses through the All Saints Health Foundation. This fund provides scholarships, continuing education and certification assistance specifically for nursing.

The not-for-profit Baylor All Saints Medical Centers serve more than 100,000 people annually through two hospitals, numerous primary care physician centers and practices, a rehabilitation and fitness center, and a variety of medical specialties. Programs of excellence in cardiology, transplantation, neurosciences, oncology and women’s services form the heart of the hospitals’ services. All Saints joined Baylor Health Care System in January 2002. All Saints Health Foundation, a separately incorporated not-for-profit organization, raises and manages charitable funds to support Baylor All Saints Medical Centers. For fiscal year 2007, Baylor Health Care System reported $390 million* in community benefit, which includes providing care for charity patients and patients enrolled in government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, as well as the unreimbursed costs of medical education, research and community programs.
